About The Team
Who we are
Little Blue Heron Paddle Company was born from a deep love for the water and a passion for sharing the beauty of coastal ecosystems. After years of exploring North Carolina’s waterways and guiding others through them, we knew we wanted to create something special—an experience that connects people with nature in a meaningful way.
We believe that kayaking is more than just a recreational activity; it’s a way to slow down, appreciate the world around us, and foster a sense of stewardship for our coastal environment. Our tours are designed to be immersive, educational, and accessible for all skill levels, whether you're a first-time paddler or an experienced adventurer.
Safety is our top priority. All of our guides are lifeguard, first aid, and CPR certified, ensuring a safe and enjoyable experience for every guest. With a strong background in guiding and outdoor education, our team is trained to handle a variety of situations while making each trip fun, engaging, and informative.
Every tour is an opportunity to witness breathtaking wildlife, learn about the delicate balance of coastal ecosystems, and make lasting memories on the water. Join us for an unforgettable adventure, where every paddle stroke brings you closer to the natural wonders of North Carolina’s coast!
Let’s explore the beauty of the coast—one paddle stroke at a time.
Hey, I’m Matthew Hill, and guiding kayak tours isn’t just my job—it’s my passion. My love for kayaking and the aquatic ecosystems of North Carolina began during childhood visits to my grandparents, who lived on the water. I spent countless hours exploring the shoreline, discovering marine life, and developing a deep appreciation for the beauty and complexity of these environments.
I’m proud to be a graduate of the University of North Carolina Wilmington (UNCW), where I deepened my connection to the coastal environment. Over the past five years, I’ve spent countless hours kayaking in Wilmington, and I look forward to many more years of exploring and sharing these waters with others. My combined experiences as a kayak tour guide and camp counselor have not only strengthened my leadership skills but also made me especially good with children. I love creating safe, engaging, and memorable experiences for paddlers of all ages.
Whether it’s spotting an osprey overhead, paddling through peaceful marshes, or witnessing a breathtaking coastal sunset, my goal is to make your time on the water both relaxing and enriching. I believe there’s something truly special about being on the water—and I’d love to help you discover that for yourself.
